The gunfight which raged in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar since yesterday morning has ended with the killing of both the militants on Tuesday, police said. The firefight had erupted on Monday, after officials said that militants had tried to mount a Fidayeen attack on the CRPF installation in the area, housing the 23 battalion and CRPF Director General’s office.
An official said that the exchange of fire has stopped now. “A combing operation is on,” he said, adding that they were ascertaining the identity of the slain militants. Earlier, DGP SP Vaid said a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba has been killed in the gunfight that also left a CRPF trooper dead and a policeman injured.
Zulfiqar Hasan, IG Operation, CRPF had earlier told reporters that they were operating cautiously to avoid any collateral damage to citizens and property. Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit had yesterday, in a statement, claimed the responsibility of the attack.
